The Shop

The co-owners of The Violin Shop Paula Simmons and Kevin Smith had known each other professionally for over fifteen years. In 2006 they decided to put their multitude of talents and years of string instrument experience together to create The Violin Shop. They had no idea at the time what a wonderful world would emerge.

Their goal was to build a high quality string shop in San Diego. They leased out 1,200 square feet and the next thing they knew, they were expanding the size of the workshop to accommodate the growing demand of players and for fine instruments.

Chase Gregory

I’m Chase Gregory; I have been working/apprenticing at the Violin shop for just under a year and a half. Kevin has taught me instrument set up and most basic repairs. My main roll in the shop is keeping the rental fleet stocked, maintained and with great sound and performance. I ensure that beginning musicians, such as myself, have a good quality instrument with which to learn. I have been taking violin lessons from Paula for only a couple of months now and am in the process of building my own instrument. Aside from work I love catching waves, I am an advanced Scuba Diver, and have recently become an Eagle Scout. I have been so blessed to be at such a great shop where I learn every day and am surrounded by so many skilled and knowledgeable people willing to share with me.
